over the telephone unless the person can provide adequate identification.
- Be cautious of any "get rich" schemes
or prizes that require charges or delivery fees.
- Never keep a PIN number with an ATM card.

- Store bank statements away from prying eyes.
ATM Safety
- Choose a well lighted ATM and park close.
Have someone come with you when using a machine at night.
- Fill out all forms beforehand and have your
card ready when you approach the ATM. If someone is using the
machine, stand back to allow privacy.
- Stand directly in front of the ATM so no
one sees you enter your PIN.
- Pocket your cash immediately and count it
later. If followed after leaving an ATM, go to a public area
near people.
7 Ways to Reduce ATM Fraud
- Memorize your Personal Identification Number
(PIN). Never write it on your ATM card or card envelope.
- Don't discuss your account or account balance
with anyone. Never give information on your account or PIN over
the phone.
- Never allow anyone to use your card or PIN.
- Don't withdraw money for an "official"
person. No bank representative, auditor, or law enforcement person
will ever ask you to withdraw money from an ATM for any reason.
- Keep your receipts and verify each transaction
on your statement. If you have an unexplained transaction, contact
you financial institution immediately.
- Report a lost or stolen card to your financial
institution immediately.
- Carefully read the Electronic Funds Transfer
agreement and disclosure sent by the financial institution issuing
your card. Know your liability for failing to notify your financial
institution in a timely manner of a lost or stolen card.
